ATTRACTIONS
It is often said that Prince Edward Island is one big
playground for the young at heart. After all, we have beaches and parks,
trails and fishing holes, amusement parks and festivals, and great shopping. The action minded
can kayak or deep sea fish, all manner of outdoor activities. Those who get
their pleasure from exploring knowledge will love finding out about wind
energy, or taking a fun course, or going out with a park naturalist.
History and heritage your thing? - check out our museums and historic sites,
several provincial sites exist to help you work on your family tree.
Prince Edward Island has an active arts community
offering theatre, galleries, craft outlets and demonstrations and even
workshops for writers and photographers. Music is part of our culture and
can be experienced at festivals or in local nightspots - don’t miss our
ceilidhs, they are awesome!

Gramma's old cookbooks ‑ such as bannock, homemade jams and jellies,

different offered each day. Delicious bake sales take place at various times
throughtout the summer.
July 16 & 17, 2010 the second annual "Sea Glass
Festival" with guest speaker S. Deacon Ritterbush, Ph.D., otherwise known as
"Dr. Beachcomber" will be giving a public lecture on the many wonderful
treasures found on our beaches. Dr. Beachcomb will also be signing her
book, "A Beachcombers Odyssey, Vol. 1, Collections from a Treasured Past."
Most information available on the Sea glass website at
peiseaglassfestival.com. The first Sea Glass Festival was a huge
success. We are very excited with all the interest and excitement both
from the Island and away.
Moonlight Tours take place in July
and August, one per month. They’ve been going for several years with
refreshments, entertainment, guided tours amid lantern lit rooms, etc. Daily
Tours are offered or you can explore on your own. Eleven themed rooms full of
area history and culture include Rum‑Running Room, Burning/Phantom
Ship Room, Interpretive Room for Island Lighthouses, Fisheries Room,
Lightkeeper's Quarters, etc. Interactives, videos, add to the experience.
Our
"Friendship
Garden" that was started by the last lightkeeper, Leon Patton was
unfortunately destroyed when our lighthouse was relocated from the edge of
bank further inland to safer ground. Fortunately, we were able to save
some of Leon's lilies to begin a new garden. Our beautiful Victorian
rose bushes were planted by the second last lightkeeper,
George Stewart. They make rosehip syrup from them in the spring to sell in
Captain Angus Brown giftshop. Everything around us down there has
special meaning and we try to open it up for the community and our visitors
to experience and enjoy in a fun and educational way.”
School groups from Pictou come each
June as their annual trip. Bev has put together a wonderful activity book
for each student and I treat them with homemade chocolate chip cookies. They
have a wonderful day with us and crossing on the ferry to get to us is a
treat as well.”
